Wild life of Assam :
     

Kaziranga:

The First National Pak in Assam situated in Central Assamwith an area of 430 sp kms. Kaziranga is the home of  the great One horned Rhinoceros

PARK AREA – 429.93 SQ KM, Addition Area – 429.40 Sq Km 

LOCATION – Middle Assam in North East India.

Latitude - 260 30 N - 260 45 N , LONGITUDE 930 08 E - 930 36   

Climate Sub-tropical Monsoon with average rainfall of 1320 mm and temperature ranging from 80 C in winter to 380 in summer. 

Landscape is of sheer forest, tall Elephant grass, rugged reeds, mellow marshes and shallow pools.

Wildlife

39 species of Animals, Rhinoceros, Asiatic wild Buffalo, Elephant, Swamp deer, Hog Deer, Wildpig etc. are commonly sighted, Tiger, Leopard, Sloth bear, Hoolock Gibbon, Python are sometimes seen. The Park has rich variety of more than 400 species of birds, the prominent among them are Cormorants, Herons, Egrets, Storks, Pelicans, Hornbills, Eagles, Terns, Ducks, Pheasants, Patridge, Pigeons, Kites, Floricans, etc. Many species of reptiles, amphibian, nearly 500 species of plants, innumerable variety of insects, variety of fishes are found in the park

1908 Declared as reserve Forest

1916 Declared as Game Sanctuary

1938 Opened to visitors

1950 Declared as Wildlife Sanctuary

1974 Declared as National Park

1975 First protected Area in India equipped with wireless

1985 Inscribed in the list of World Heritage Site by UNESCO
