Activities
i) Organised a Sattriya Dance recital
by three young and upcoming talents on April 8, 2003 in the Rabindra
Bhavan, Guwahati. The recital dedicated to the memory of Late Maniram
Dutta Muktiyar, celebrated exponent and teacher of the tradition
of Sattriya music and dance, was inaugurated by
then Governor of Assam, Lt.General ( Retd.) Shri S.K. Sinha.
ii) Organised a 10 day Refresher
Course for the teachers of Sattriya Dance in which 26 participants
were selected and distinguished teachers and exponents participated
as resource persons. The Refresher
Course received wide and overwhelming response and appreciation
from the Public and press at large.
iii) Prepared and produced a CD on
Sattriya Dance as a teaching aid for the teachers and learners of
the tradition.
iv) The
Foundation organised on 25,26,27,28 September a four day Festival
of Ankiya Bhaona, the traditional Vaisnava theatre introduced
by Sankaradeva, with the participation by groups of Mising, Bodo,
Nepali, Sonowal Kachari, Tea-Tribes artist different tribal and
ethnic groups of Assam. The Festival called ‘Setubandha’ aimed
at creating an environment of mutual understanding, peace against
violence and terrorism, was a resounding success and received very
wide approbation at all levels. The maestro of modern Assamese music
and Chairman, Sangeet Natak Akademi, Dr. Bhupen Hazarika, who graced
the Festival as a Guest of Honour, Described the Festival as a great
milestone in the recent social and cultural history of Assam.

Shri Ghanakanta Bora Barbayan, a trustee of the Foundation and an
eminent exponent of Sattriya Dance, Music and Theatre and a SNA
awardee is participating with a group of artists in a series of
Sattriya Dance Recitals in the SPIC-MACAY Virasat-2003 this month
and also in the Golden Jubilee celebrations of the Sangeet Natak
Akademi in Mumbai.
The Foundation organised a National
Symposium on Sankardeva in New Delhi on November 3,2003 inviting
distinguished scholars from different parts of the country.
Dr.(Smti) Kapila Vatsyayan, the celebrated scholar inagurated the
symposium and delivered the Keynote Address of the Symposium.
The Foundation has also has undertaken
a research "Project Sahacharyya" to study the intercommunity expectations
and mutual relations amon diverse indigenous and non-indigenous
social groups residing in Assam. Prof. B. Choudhury in the Dept.
of Anthropology, Gauhati University will be its Project Director.
The Project wil be trying to delve deep into the root cause of trust,
distrust and mistrust among varying social groups for finding out
the ways and means for their eradication so as to further the cause
of harmony and integratin.
The Foundation plans to establish
in near future an Institute of Sattriya Dance and Music in Guwahati
for conducting continuing pursuit and training in Sattriya Dance,
Music and Ankiya Bhaona.
To mark its First Anniversary, the
Foundation organised a special programme entitled 'Sadbhavana'
for promoting inter-community social harmony and understanding through
art, on April 8 last. The programme was dedicated to the hallowed
memory of late Raseswar Saikia ' Barbayan' , celebrated exponent
and teacher of Sattriya Dance and Theatre . Presentation of Sattriya
Dance,'Varnamay': a comparative appraisal of some of the classical
dance like Rajashani , Bhojpuri, Punjabi, Bengali and Assamese Bihu
were the higghlights of the programme.
Dr. Birendranath Datta, eminent scholar and President , Assam Sahitya
Sabha, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest and Smt.Mai Saikia,
wife of the late exponent paid floral tributes at his portrait .
Sri P.V. Sumant IPS, Director General of Police, formally
launched the 'Project Sahacharyya' : undertaken by the Foundation.
